Keynote Address by Julie J. Park: “Asian Americans & Race-Conscious Admissions: Looking at SFFA v. Harvard and Beyond.” Dr. Park is associate professor of education, University of Maryland, College Park. Her research addresses how race, religion, and social class affect diversity and equity in higher education, including the diverse experiences of Asian American college students. She is the author of Race on Campus: Debunking Myths with Data (Harvard Education Press), which tackles misconceptions about how race and diversity work in higher education, and of When Diversity Drops: Race, Religion, and Affirmative Action in Higher Education (Rutgers University Press, 2013), an examination of how universities are affected by bans on affirmative action. Dr. Park earned her Ph.D. in Education from UCLA (Higher Education & Organizational Change), with a graduate concentration in Asian American Studies, and B.A. at Vanderbilt University (Sociology, English, & Women’s Studies).

Dr. Ward is assistant professor of education and research associate, Center for the Study of Higher Education, Penn State College of Education. Dr. Ward’s research agenda centers on critically analyzing legal issues in higher education including race-conscious admissions, free speech, and academic freedom. She holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Indiana University and a J.D. from Indiana University McKinney School of Law.
